Chief De Beers passed away on Friday 17 July 2020.

Trained by Bill Calder, he won with up to 64.6kgs at Doomben which was a marvel as he was not a big horse.

Affectionately known as “The Chief” he was recruited into the Queensland Police force on retirement from racing on 14 July 1999. After a period of initial training Chief was exposed to all areas of mounted police duties that include Operational – Community Policing – Public Relations and Ceremonial activities. Chief completed numerous operational patrols (including CHOGM), a number of ceremonial escorts (Royal Queensland Show (RNA) Opening – Appointment of Queensland Governor) and attended numerous community events.

“The Chief” had a distinguished career in the police force including serving as the designated Governor’s police horse. A Vice Regal send off was held for “The Chief” in December 2012 prior to his arrival at Living Legends.
