Prince of Penzance is a New Zealand-bred Thoroughbred race horse who won his maiden race at Stawell in March of 2013 and went on to win the 2015 Melbourne Cup at odds of 100 to 1. He overcame injuries and then a severe bout of colic which required surgery to go on to win “The Cup”. POP was trained by Darren Weir, his jockey was Michelle Payne, who became the first female jockey to win the race. Michelle’s brother, Stephen, strapped POP and selected the number 1 barrier in the barrier draw which led to POP having a rails run in the race that stops a nation.
