Legendary Photographic Exhibition

See the best of Living Legends and surrounding 1,500 acres of Woodlands Park through the camera lenses of members of the local Craigieburn Camera Club. The exhibition will include the best of Living Legends, Woodlands Homestead and Park, the local bird and wildlife with views across the park and into the distance. You will be able to purchase copies of prints but more importantly check out Living Legends and Woodlands Homestead and Park yourselves and enjoy a legendary Devonshire Tea with a baby chino or milkshake for the kids.

Support Living Legends, entertain the family and celebrate an iconic sporting weekend in Melbourne. The Day includes free family entertainment including rides, arts and crafts, face painting, live performances, stage shows, a mascot race and much more….

Bendigo Bank East Malvern Charity Race-Day will take place on Sunday 28 September at Caulfield Racecourse, with Melbourne Racing Club donating proceeds to support fundraising and awareness for Living Legends.

Poems, Song and Stories of Legends of the Turf  

 

 Bobby with Jim Cassidy a

Carol Reffold (the Patchwork Poet) along with Jim Brown and Dr Andrew Clarke will present songs, poems and stories about the Living Legends, Melbourne Cup Winning horses who now live at this remarkable homestead. We showcase tales with interesting ‘coincidences’ about events and the horses’ connections, which have led to that one day of the year, the first Tuesday of November with the running of the Melbourne Cup.

The Sunbury Region Wine & Food Festival will be held at Living Legends this year on the  Sunday 26 October, 2014, the day after the running of this year’s Cox Plate.

 The Sunbury Wine Region is the closest to Melbourne and   also one of Victoria’s oldest wine regions. Come and taste an array of cool, dry-climate wines that have been produced in this region since the late 1860 that  includes Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and  the Sunbury Wine Region’s award winning Shiraz. There will be a tantalizing selection of food stalls featuring delicious Victorian produce.The retired champions and Cox Plate winners Better Loosen Up, Fields of Omagh and Might and Power will be  meeting  and greeting  visitors  at the historic Woodlands Homestead and Gardens. Come discover wines and tasty food and retired racing champions !

 Legendary Spring Carnival Melbourne Cup Family Day

Celebrate the spring racing carnival with the 2006 VRC Derby winner Efficient and his fellow Melbourne Cup winners Doriemus, Might and Power, Rogan Josh and Brew. Enjoy the best of the local wines, tantalizing food featuring Victorian produce along with the ever popular traditional sausage sizzle. There will be parades and photo opportunities with our Melbourne Cup Champions, pony rides and face painting for kids along with live entertainment.

 Legendary Hume Music Festival Family Day

Family entertainment will come to the fore at Living Legends during the Hume Festival of Music 2014, when we host an exciting fun-filled carnival day for the whole family with Live entertainment provided by Bobsy Die, a good time folk music group performing traditional and contemporary songs from around the world. Highlights will include pony rides, face painting and kid’s entertainment, photo opportunities with Legends of the Turf, and opportunities to wander through the historic homestead and gardens.

Living Legends is thrilled to announce that it will host the 2015 Live, Grow, Explore, Community Day on March 15th 2015. The focus of the day will be natural environment of the northwest of Melbourne and visitors will be able to enjoy and learn more about Woodlands Homestead the home of Living Legends and the surrounding Woodlands Historic Park.  The day is a key activity within a partnership between Landcare Australia and Jemena and is also supported by Hume City Council. More details nearer the event.

Living Legends is thrilled to announce that it will host the 2014 Live, Grow, Explore, Community Day on March 23rd. The focus of the day will be natural environment of the northwest of Melbourne and visitors will be able to enjoy and learn more about Woodlands Homestead the home of Living Legends and the surrounding Woodlands Historic Park.  The day is a key activity within a partnership between Landcare Australia and Jemena and is also supported by Hume City Council. Other stakeholders include Conservation Volunteers Australia, Reptile Encounters, Melbourne Water, Moreland Energy Foundation, SES and CFA, St Johns Ambulance and Friends of Woodlands Park.

Activities available on the day will include meeting the Living Legends horses, walking tours of Woodlands Homestead and Gardens as well as the surrounding Parklands, Pony Rides, face painting, boomerang throwing, art and craft activities and stories and games by Landcare Fairy. There will be a free barbecue, free ice creams, free water  with Devonshire Teas on sale in the homestead.  A great all round family and community day. More details shortly.

The day will include:

  • Vasili Kanidiadis of Vasili’s Garden to Kitchen TV show.
  • FLYBZ – African hip hop band now calling Melbourne home. Their direct experiences lead them to write Child Soldier (videoclip here), produced by ARIA award-winning Jesse Hooper (Killing Heidi).
  • Future Sparks – interactive display where electricity will be powered by pedal power.
  • Reptile Encounters – wildlife up close, providing insights into local native reptiles.
  • Free bush tucker BBQ lunch and ice creams.
  • Guided nature walks.
  • Children’s activities – Landcare fairy, face painting, pony rides and boomerang throwing.
  • Young up-and-coming performers: Sudanese spoken word performer Abe Nouk and Koori didgeridoo player Brent Young, country singer Lindi Rancie, soul singer Keagan Clotheir and singer songwriter Cass Planko, as well as African dancers Zero Degrees.
