Fathers' Day with Northerly at Living Legends
Here's a Father's Day event for the racing Dad – the superstar Northerly, who won nine Group One races,
has arrived at Living Legends (see update below). So, this Sunday has been declared "Father's Day With Northerly".
It's a day out for the family, with a sausage sizzle, and the chance to have your photo taken with the champ,
along with the other Living Legends stars like Might and Power, Better Loosen Up and Rogan Josh.
As usual, Living Legends will be open from 10 till 4 on Sunday. We hope to see you there!
Northerly Steps Out at Living Legends
It is with great pride that Living Legends announces the arrival of Northerly at Living Legends.
Northerly stepped out at for a canter on the StrathAyr Turf at Moonee Valley on Tuesday 31st August under
champion jockey Damien Oliver, at the media announcement for this years’ Inductees into Australian Horseracing Hall of Fame. At right, you
can see a picture of Greg Childs, Northerly with Damien Oliver, Shari Brown and Patrick Payne at this event.
Living Legends is grateful to managing owner Neville Duncan and trainer Fred Kersley for making this visit possible. Depending on availability of planes,
Northerly will likely fly back to Western Australia in early December this year. Northerly will be at Living Legends daily for the next two weeks and
then on weekends until the Caulfield Cup, where he will step out for a canter down the straight prior to the Caulfield Cup under retired champion jockey
Greg Childs. After the Caulfield Cup, Northerly will be based at Living Legends until he returns home to the Duncan’s property in Western Australia.
Living Legends invites you to come and meet our newest champion!
Birthday Hug For BLU
Better Loosen Up celebrated his 25th birthday last Sunday with a
special family day organized with Country Fire Authority district 14. The sun shone on the day and the sausage sizzle,
pony rides and kids’ activities including painting mini Breyer Horses were popular. However, it was Better Loosen
Up (BLU) who was the star of the day. BLU touched many hearts in his racing heyday and none more so than when he
won the 1990 Japan Cup for Australia. Today BLU touches many hearts with his gentle nature and special affinity
for a pat. On the right, you can see BLU receiving a birthday hug from 18-month-old fan Rhona McShane.
Apache Cat Special Guest at Balaklava Cup
Living Legend Apache Cat was a special guest at the Balaklava Cup on September 1st.
Approximately 15,000 fans attended the Cup Day with many driving several hours to see Apache Cat. The queue of
people fans waiting to have photos taken with "The Cat" was 30 metres long for much of the day. A walk
down the straight at Balaklava was a special feature of the day with Apache Cat stopping along the way for a pat
and photo opportunities.
"Apache Cat is a great personality," reported Trevor Sampson from the Balaklava
Racing Club. "He just loves the attention and being centre stage." Apache Cat was on his best behavior
with Living Legends strapper Rebecca Jelic who travelled with Apache Cat. We are very grateful to Lindsay Park
for assistance with the transport of Apache Cat and Tony McEvoy and his team for providing a stable for Apache
Cat and accommodation for Rebecca. Apache cat is staying over in South Australia and will be special guest of
Gawler Racing Club for their upcoming Cup meeting before he returns to Living Legends. Special thanks are also
due to John Letts for acting as Living Legends unofficial ambassador in South Australia.
