New alliance ensures that the "legend lives on"
September 8, 2008
It is with great pride that Living Legends and Victoria's premier thoroughbred stud
Eliza Park announced today that they have formed a strategic alliance which will ensure the legend lives on. Living Legends has been battling for its survival since the 2007 outbreak of equine influenza caused crippling financial losses for the equine industry. The alliance with Eliza Park will kick off with a Gala Dinner at Championsthe Australian Racing Museum on Thursday 25 September.
Promising a wide range of entertainment, including a silent auction, good food, live music and a host of other activities, an evening highlight will be an auction of nominations to each of Eliza Park's 10 stallions.
"Living Legends is one of the nation's great resources and allows racing fans the opportunity to get up close and personal with the stars of yesterday," Eliza Park's CEO Cameron Croucher points out. "It attracts over 40,000 visitors each year but, unfortunately, is seriously underfunded.
"Eliza Park and Living Legends have formed this alliance to ensure that the enthusiasts of today and tomorrow don't miss out on seeing the stars of yesterday.
"Eliza Park and Living legends have a number of initiatives that are currently in the pipeline but aim to get the ball rolling literally with the Gala Dinner at Champions."
"It should be a great night," enthused Living Legends CEO Dr Andrew Clarke, "and very fitting that it's being held at the Racing Museum. This is a wonderful gesture by Eliza Park, a life saver for Living Legends. This will provide the foundations on which we can develop our long-term sustainability and ensure that Living Legends achieves its full potential."
Eliza Park is generously offering up services to each of their stallions including Champion Victorian Sire, Bel Esprit (2008 fee: $33,000) and Caulfield Guineas hero, God’s Own ($38,500), plus Group One winning sprinters Magnus ($27,500) and Shinzig ($18,150) who have both retired to stud this season and are hugely popular with broodmare owners.
"Given that it's such a good cause, we're anticipating solid industry support for the event," continued Cameron Croucher. "We’d hope that everyone gets right behind this fundraiser to ensure the continued viability of Living Legends.
"Eliza Park sees it as the perfect symmetry: Living Legends seeks to provide a resource for the household names of yesterday and, as breeders, we're looking to provide them with the household names of tomorrow."
There is a limited allocation of tables for the ELIZA PARK/LIVING LEGENDS GALA DINNER. For further information please phone Tracey Doolan on 0411 806 332 or email
